Dear Professor Brad, I am Liew Siew Hoong, 24, currently a Year 1 student studying in SIT’s Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Engineering course. Today, I am writing to you to share a little bit more about myself. I was also a Mechanical Engineering student back at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I chose Engineering because I fell in love with the mechanics of automotive engineering. Since I was a little boy, I’ve always loved cars and it slowly developed into a passion for the automotive world. Furthermore, having adequate communication skills will also influence your subordinates or peers to view you as a leader figure, which in turn impacts how they interpret the significance of your message and helps to command respect.

One key point in presentations and public speaking I have picked up is the preparation before it, the planning of the execution, the knowledge and pointers that I will need to share about and last but not least the flow of the presentation has to be adequate before one can step up to give a good and confident speech. I have also realised the importance of the PEEL framework where I can construct my delivery of points in a structured and comprehensive way as it allows me to link my opinions and facts with evidence. Besides the opport...
